THE STIRRING

"How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults." Psalms 19:12

Like the Psalmist asked, how can we know all the sins lurking in our hearts?

The truth is, we can never know on our own, but thankfully, God does such a good work of bringing to surface the things we have buried. We may go years being comfortable in a rot, but a time will come when God in his infinite mercy will knock on that door we have locked up for years. A time will come when He would begin to dig into our hearts and unravel buried truths, buried hurts, lies, and oh so much ugliness.

You see, when this stirring occurs, it brings to surface things that make us uncomfortable. Ugly things that we would rather avoid or pretend does not exist inside of us. Things we have supposedly overcome. Yet, there they are. And because these things make us uncomfortable, because they remind us we are not perfect, we seek to hide it. We knowingly or unknowingly resist the beautiful work God desires to do.

It is good to remember that we are not perfect. We are in constant need of pruning and refining.

So, the next time you feel that stirring in your spirit, that gentle tug at your heart calling your attention to confront that thing you have gotten comfortable with, I pray for you to recognize it for what it is.
A time for growth. A time for newness.
It may be painful and uncomfortable but we have to be brave to welcome and surrender to the construction underway.

That growth is needed for the next season the Lord is taking you and me. Believe me, It is for a purpose. His intent is never to lord passed sins over our head and forever accuse us of it, or haunt us with the guilt. That is the work of the devil. While the devil seeks to keep us in that rot, God works to bring us out of it and to cleanse us.

All He needs is our cooperation. Recognizing and confessing what He unravels, and then surrendering to Him for a change. Whatever change that may be and whatever form it takes, a beautiful surrender is required each time for growth.
