NEW YEAR, NEW YOU?

"And to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness."
Ephesians 4:24

The New year, New Me is a well-known mantra, commonly spoken and heard from the start of every new year, up until the 2nd week of January, before it slowly dies out.
Let me ask you, have you drawn up your resolutions yet?
What does it look like?

Our New Year's resolutions to a large extent, reflect who we are and who we want to be.
New Year, New Me.
This New you that you speak of, what does he/she look like? Better yet, who does he/she look like?
A rather grandiose version of you? or a reflection of God?
The things you want to give up or pick up this year, will they make you more like Jesus? How much of it really is about Jesus?
How much of your resolutions is eternity focused?

As I'm asking these questions, I am asking myself the same thing. I don't want this year to be yet another year where I am preoccupied with self and only self. I want to be intentional about taking off what I call the 'Me glasses'. I want to make this year the year I am more intentional about storing treasures in heaven and not on earth. Covid and the likes can eat up the treasures on earth. 2020 is a sour reminder of that. So, why not make this year about God? Why not start the year right.

I know in the past, I would start right, but lose track after a month or two into the year, and then quit altogether, promising myself I would do better the next year. Oh. What a waste!
This year, I had an unusual new year's eve. It was quieter than what it used to be in the past (thanks Covid!), and somehow, as I lay on my bed after it clocked 12.00, I thought to myself- wow, New year, is really just another day. I've always known this, but for some reason, it sounded like a brand new revelation.

Indeed, every day is a new beginning. And guess what is even more awesome?! The mercies of God are also new every morning! This means that if you mess up today, you don't have to wait until 2022 to have a fresh start. Every day is your opportunity to start afresh and start right! Every day is a new day to take up your cross and follow Jesus. Every day is a new day, and a good day to change the course of your life. Isn't that awesome?!

Have you already gone off track? You can get back on track. Repent, and start again. It doesn't matter how many times you've gotten it wrong in the past, or how many times you fear you would fall this year. I want you to know that God's grace is extended to you. Just bloom. Bloom in His likeness.

Happy New Year!
